Prominence of citizens is prominence of the Emperor : Sadasivaraya, the descendant of the above chieftains who ruled this area wished to remove poverty and disease from his land. He consulted his Royal Physician, the Rasa Panditha Sironmani Mantra Vaidhya Kesari, Kannikaparameswarar to find a way for the same.
Vaidhya and Vaidhyanatha : The Royal Physician, as a fruit of his twelve years of intense work created the Somanatha Easwarya Paashaana lingam a sacred medicinal lingam, with the Thimiri Paashaanam, one of the navapaashaanam nine concoctions in the Danvantri Vaidhya Formula. (Thimiri also means fire). The Thimiri lingam is only six inches tall. It was consecrated at the Fort, in 1379 A.D. in the month of Thai, on Thiruvadirai day with the blessings of the 12th Pontiff of Singeri Saradha Mutt.
The great medicine that cures the disease of birth : The medicinal property of the water from sacred ablution (abisheka theerta) of this lingam grants the state of makaara in the heart, corrects heart’s function, kidney diseases and grants several benefits in life. Isn’t it wonderful that medicine and Isa come together as Marundheesa and cure several diseases! As the lingam is created by thimiri paashaanam it can sublime. Hence, water is trickled over it continuously to keep it cool. Those who consume this sacred water are blessed with wellbeing and good fortune.
Invasion : Later, when Arcot Namab invaded this area, the Vellore Fort was also captured. The Muslims plundered temples and other sacred places in this area.
The Jalaganteswara who hid in Jalam (Water) : Kannikaparameswarar protected his rare and special paashaana lingam from the invaders as follows. He smeared beeswax on the lingam, placed it inside a tortoise shaped shield made with special chemicals. The Lingam and the shield were placed within a triangular box that was created with geographic principles and hid it in the temple tank in the year 1454 A.D.
Fortitude and the invevitable end : The Royal medicine man rushed along with his group to the border of Kanchipuram to escape from being captured by the invaders. The Muslim soldiers, who heard about their escape from the spies, captured them and brought them to Sri Renukambhal temple at Aanaimalloor near Thimiri. They were killed by letting an elephant step on them. At the time of being trampled by the elephant, Kannikaparameswarar swore on Lord Shiva that if at all he has another birth he will rescue the lingam and reinstall it.
The Lord’s will : Five hundred years went by since the lingam was buried. So many changes happened over time! May be it was the Lord’s will that this Siva li`ngam with its medicinal properties should be revealed when Palani Andavar’s Navapaashaana image installed by Bhogar is dwindling due to incessant sacred ablution.
Lord’s rescue effort : Arutchelvar A.S.Radhakrishnan was attempting to build an ayappan Temple at Thimiri Fort in 1985. Even though there was no dearth of funds, the project never reached completion. To know the reason for this Thiru.Radhakrishnan consulted Kandhar Naadi with Thiru.JayaHari at Vellore.
Goal of the reincarnation : The Kandhar Naadi revealed that Mr.Radhakrishnan was the reincarnation of the Royal physician. Further, it gave details about the paashaana lingam and how it should be taken out. How long can the clouds conceal the Sun? It was an interesting coincidence that Thirunirai. Radhakrishnan was born in the same Aanaimalloor where the Physician was killed by the elephant.
Protection : The naadi mentioned that as the buried paashaana lingam will emit powerful rays one need to have protection while taking it out. The naadi showed that a pearl will be found at the anthill near the Kutrala Sri Senpaka Devi temple. If the lingam is taken out wearing a silver ring where this pearl is installed then one can escape from the radiation.
The Lord emerged : Thiru.Radhakrishna followed these instructions and searched for the paashaana lingam concealed at the Thimiri Fort Somanatha Easwara Temple tank at a depth of 32 feet. He was supported by his spiritual friends and citizens of the town. Due to his previous good karma, he was really surprising that the beeswax, maalpacchai and the tortoise-shaped shield had kept the lingam intact even after so many years. Our ancestors expertise in the field of chemistry is truly amazing.
News in Skandar Manimaalai Sadhagam : The fact that all these information are found in the Thiruvaavaduturai Adheenam’s work, Skandar Manimaalai Sadhagam is worth mentioning. Words cannot express the delight of witness the emergence of this lingam, an event predicted by not only the above mentioned work but also by great Saints like Vittobha Swamigal, Seshadri Swamigal and Poondi Mahaan. Quarter of a century in a glass box : Arulaalar Radhakrishnan has installed this lingam in a glass box filled with pure cool water and is performing sacred ablutions and other rituals with utmost sincerity for the past twenty five years.
New Temple : A new temple has been built on the banks of Thimiti Fort Somanatha Easwarya Temple Tank under the Peepal tree. The beautiful temple turret (gopuram) adds to its glory. The wide Mahamandapam along with its beautiful entrance enhances the grace of the temple further.
Rare Aavudaiyaar : The Paashaanalingeswara was installed by Thiru.A.S.Radhakrishna within a 2 ½ feet high glass aavudaiyaar with the help of the general public. Kumbabishakam was performed on 05.09.2005.
